Michael Bublé Opens Up About How His Son Noah’s Liver Cancer Battle Changed His Perspective and Alter-Ego
Michael Bublé Reflects on Son’s Cancer Battle and Marriage with Luisana Lopilato
Michael Bublé has opened up about the profound impact his son Noah’s battle with hepatoblastoma, a rare form of liver cancer, had on him. The 47-year-old singer shared that the experience, which began when Noah was just three years old, changed him in significant ways.
In an interview with Red magazine, Bublé revealed that the traumatic ordeal not only altered his outlook on life but also led him to lose his “alter-ego” that he had embraced as a performer. “For most of my life as an entertainer, especially on stage, I’d become my alter ego,” Bublé explained. “Then my wife and I went through this unthinkable thing, and I lost that alter ego.”
Noah, now 9 years old, underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and he is now in remission. The experience has reshaped Bublé’s perspective on what truly matters. “That, of course, changed me in a big way—it changed what mattered to me, it changed how I saw life,” he said.
Bublé, who has been happily married to actress Luisana Lopilato since 2011, also reflected on the strength of their relationship. He credits their shared understanding of each other’s needs and fulfillment as the cornerstone of their marriage. “My wife and I recognize that each other’s fulfillment is more essential than anything else,” he said. “I’m not saying we’re perfect – nobody is – but we both have that understanding.”
The couple, who also have three other children—seven-year-old Elias, four-year-old Vida, and five-month-old Cielo—make family a priority. Bublé added, “I won’t be touring for certain months next year because she’ll be filming a movie, and so I’ll be Daddy on set, and then she’ll do the same for me. We don’t care what we do—being together is the goal.”
In a previous interview, Bublé revealed how the news of Noah’s diagnosis left him feeling “very unstable and vulnerable.” The emotional toll of the experience led him to take a more cautious approach when recording his 2018 album, which he now reflects on as a period of emotional recovery. “When I made the last record, my son had just been in remission and I wasn’t ready to come back,” he said. “Mentally, I was so unstable and vulnerable. I made a safe record… and just tried to protect myself.” However, now that his family is in a better place, Bublé feels re-energized, eager to create music that truly represents his newfound perspective on life.
